Time flies really fast......

It's 2011 now!!!

Wishing everyone belated happy new year and may this year be a prosperous one for you and your loved ones.

SP will have open house from 6 to 8 January AND...

SPastro will be setting up a booth in the open house!!!

SO do visit us during the open house to get to know more about us and be wowed by our unique telescopes!! :D

WHAT'S MORE!!

We will also be having our annual event called funomynite organised by our beloved sub-committees and this year, the theme will be " Reaching out for the stars ".

Goodies bags and refreshments will be provided PLUS

invaluable knowledge about astronomy will be shared by our sub-committees.

Have you all wondered about how the stars are born, live and die??

We will demystify your doubts during the event.

Furthermore, there will be exciting game sessions and night observation session where you will get to see celestial objects through our powerful telescopes.

Lunar Observation & Overnight Orionids Meteor Shower Watch

The Orionids is an average shower producing about 20 meteors per hour at their peak. This shower usually peaks on the 21st, but it is highly irregular. Best viewing will be to the east after midnight.

Date: 22 - 23 Oct 2010 (Friday - Saturday)

Venue: SP Stadium & East Coast Park (Overnight session)

Time: Meet @ SP Stadium by 7.30pm

Talk on SUN

We're gonna talk about our one and only SUN this coming friday!
That's right, our mr. golden sun is going to be introduced to you by Kay and SuMei

In addition to that, this session is going to be an overnight session due to the Southern-Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower.

INTRO: The Delta Aquarids can produce about 20 meteors per hour at their peak. The shower usually peaks on July 28 & 29, but some meteors can also be seen from July 18 - August 18. The radiant point for this shower will be in the constellation Aquarius.

Hello People,

Guess what? We'll be having Astroventure this coming August during the YOG break!

For this trip, we'll be heading for Pulau Tioman which is located off the east coast of peninsular Malaysia.

We'll be staying at Paya Beach Resort for 4D3N

Each person would have to pay about $179 for the package which includes snorkeling excursions to Coral Island and Marine Park =D

We will need all of you to confirm with us as to whether or not you can make it for the trip latest by ** 28th May at 12 noon **

We are going to have our first friday session this week. horray!!! :D

Are you feeling excited about what we are doing for this session?

Well, let me tell you more about this friday event. Basically , what we will be doing is night observation via telescopes, hosting a short introduction to astronomy and as a bonus and time killer, we will be playing some group-building and fun games as well. The below is the detail info for this session:

Date : 14th May ( Friday )

Time : 7pm -10 pm
Venue : meet at our clubhouse which is located above foodcourt 5
Activities: Playing games + night sky observation

We will be providing star charts for the ease of locating heavenly bodies in the night sky also . =D

Don't hesitate to bring friends either to accompany you or to have more fun.

Astro FO Camp

Hey Guys,

Our club will be holding a 3D2N FO camp next week, and I would like to invite you all to participate in this event. Year one Freshies members will also be coming, so. it's your chance to get know some juniors as well. =D. The basic information of the camp will be as following:

Date : 7th May( Friday) to 9th May ( Sunday )
Time: 6pm on Friday until around 9am on Sunday
Meeting Venue: To be announced
Fee : $10

P.S: Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided, and lots of fun games will be held for recreation. :D
Of course, There will also be night observation and according to the info we have got, there will be a meteor shower during camp period.
So, don't hesitate. Just come down and join our camp. Also think about what you want to wish for when you see meteor shower !! xD

CNY celebration + gathering

Hello!!!
Happy Lunar New Year, everyone!!
Chinese new year is coming soon... and our spastronomer club is gonna throw a big party on this coming friday!!!
There will be no night observation for this friday session.
What you can expect is game sessions, modern chinese idioms writing competition, and spastro version YU SHENG of coz....
ooopps. i forgot one thing...
There will also be "ang bao sharing ceremony".
Everyone just need to bring your own gift from $3-$5 packed in a red packet and drops it to the ang bao collection box by the time you all reach the club.
Ang bao will be distributed randomly to you guys by the end of the session ..!!!
oh..there is one more thing..as it's the party for chinese new year, i will appreciate if you guys can wear RED or ORANGE coloured shirts. :D
We will definitely have a lot of funss on that day..
The starting time is from 7pm.
The meeting place will be at our clubhouse, but we will be holding our CNY celebration at the multipurpose room located above food court 5 and playing games at stadium.
Don't forget to bring friends also as a party is to hold with a lot of people.
So see you all on this 12th February.
Remember to bring AngBao and wear red shirt on that day also..:D

Hi guys!!!

I believe you guys are totally busy with projects, proposals, reports and the final exam.
If so, this friday night will be the time for you to release stress!! :D
We have prepared a game session for you instead of the usual presentation session!!! ;)
After enjoying yourself with playing games and chit-chatting, there will be a night observation session if the weather permits.

What we will be doing : Having a hand on session with telescopes, Viewing stars and constellation that are notable and haunting MARS!!

There will be a coming event called " Germinds Star Party 2009" by the Marine Parade Astro. The objective of this event is for people with the same interest about astronomy to socialise together enjoying the night sky. There will be game activities such as Marshmallow Campfire Competition, Space Treasure Hunt and more. ( Winners are able to win prizes for each individual game ya !! ((:). Stargrazing for the public includes a short laser tour to constellations found in the sky during the night. If the weather happens to be clear, there will be a higher chances that we can experience seeing Geminids meteor through the night.

This is a good opportunities for those who are interested in meteors or constellations to join the event !! All are welcome !! Thus, you can bring along your family and friends !! ^^

An increase in the number of meteors at a particular time of year is called a meteor shower.

The Perseid meteor shower is so named because meteors appear to fall from a point in the constellation Perseus.

Lastly, you get to go through a test on basic SP Astronomy allowing you to go home with a certificate from us !!

CLOSED Astro Venture - Punggai - March 2009

SP Astronomers have been organising oversea stargazing trips on a regular basis.

This time, we will be going to Johor (Punggai) from:
Mar 2009 27/03/09 to 29/03/09
Along with fellow astronomers from NUS, and other schools.

5 students shares a clean aircon Chalet at S$130/- (Chalet/meals/transport).

Each chalet have one queen size/one single bed and we add 2 mattress.
Comes with built-in toilet and TV and Air-con.

Food will be halal and consist more vegetables(fibre FTW!).

Bus will pick us at 8.30pm in SP on Friday.

Come join us at NUS to enjoy a one-night-only stargazing evening. Open the Jewel Box of the Southern Cross and journey along our Milky Way. Look Taurus in the eye and marvel at the beautiful Pleiades and Orion Nebulae. Learn about astronomy from their friendly experts and listen to starry legends from Greek, Indian and Chinese mythologies. You are also able to pen your own poem and stand to win attractive prizes!

We will be bringing 3 telescopes and 2 binoculars there. Don't miss your chance to exchange contacts as well!
